Amazon deal swells SC jobs and tax exemption approved
South Carolina legislators reverse a veto to grant Amazon a five year sales tax exemption for a Lexington County distribution center. The deal promises 2000 jobs at about 17 dollars an hour with health insurance and 401k, plus a 125 million capital investment. Senate and governor approval remain.

SRS Activates F Canyon Box Processing for TRU Waste to WIPP
Through the Recovery Act a box remediation line at SRS F Canyon processes legacy transuranic waste for offsite storage at WIPP New Mexico. It removes non compliant items, repackages in 55 gallon drums, then ships to WIPP with air locked handling and certification back at E Area. The project costs about 55 million dollars and aims to ship 5000 cubic meters of waste by December 31 2012.

Local teens will repair homes in disrepair during a week long June session organized by Home Works of Aiken. Hosts at St Thaddeus will provide meals and activities as teens age 14 and up work on roofs kitchens and yards under adult supervision benefiting area residents and learning service.
