Georgia Seeks South Carolina Permit to Replace Savannah River Bridge

Beech Island South Carolina reports Georgia DOT has applied for a permit to replace the southbound bridge on S C 28 over the Savannah River between Aiken and Richmond counties. The 1922 deck truss bridge is 18 4 feet wide and functionally obsolete, with traffic currently directed onto the northbound span during replacement. The 1 980 foot structure formerly carried both directions before 1968. The two states will jointly maintain the new bridge once completed.
