Aiken writer defends city memories amid Idol ratings dive
Jeff Wallace recounts a caller blaming him for a book about Aiken the 1948 to 1956 era, titled Sand River, and reflects on its ties to local history and the SRP era. The piece ties the book to Aiken’s evolution from a sleepy town to a 21st century city with figures like Mayor H Odell Weeks and Senator Thurmond. It also notes American Idol finale ratings dropping to a series low and judge changes.
