Aiken Band To Wear New Uniforms

The Aiken High School Band will wear new uniforms this fall as donations reach 18,904 dollars from a two week drive by the Band Boosters Club. Solar energy could make sun a non billing utility

Dr. Sigurd Wagner of the Solar Energy Research Institute in Olden Colorado spoke at the Savannah River Plant about solar cell progress. He said cost effective photovoltaic cells may be ready by the late 1980s and that the sun delivers enough energy to meet a large portion of U S energy demand.

Industry expert Wagner describes a DOE program spanning silicon thin film and concentrator systems. He notes current US solar output at 1,000 kilowatts annually, silicon cells at about 10 percent efficiency, and concentrator systems achieving over 25 percent with a 30 to 35 percent long range target.
