Georgia student fights flesh-eating infection after zip line fall
Aimee Copeland, 24, a psychology graduate student at the University of West Georgia, battles necrotizing fasciitis after a zip line accident. Doctors amputated most of her left leg and say she may lose more limbs but are hopeful she can save her right foot and palms. She remains in critical condition in Augusta with a breathing tube, facing months of recovery and dialysis for kidney damage. The Aeromonas hydrophila infection, connected to warm waters, followed a leg gash from the Little Tallapoosa River incident.
