Grand Jury Sets Testimony for Aiken County Officials

Five county department heads and a Corbin Inc. staffer were ordered to testify before a special session of the Aiken County Grand Jury. Subpoenas named Building Inspector Joe W. Busby Finance Director Frieda Walker Public Works Director Arthur Baxter Coroner John Stoll Purchasing Agent Thomas Toole and C L Skip Townsend. Townsend called for a grand jury probe of County Council amid disputes over a Corbin study and county government.

Aiken County Accepts Corbin Study as Information

Aiken County Council formally accepted an 18 000 person nel study by Corbin Inc as information at last night’s meeting and released the 350 degree document to the press. No vote was taken on implementing the study as debate resurfaced with several council members opposing the project.

Aiken Hires Traffic Officers to Cut City Accidents

The Aiken Department of Public Safety adds two traffic officers, Frady and Roberts, to reduce 445 auto accidents and 161 injuries in 24 months by 5 percent. They will enforce laws, issue tickets, assist motorists, and inspect intersections for safety improvements.
