Memorial tribute marks passing of Solomon Blatt

Three Arrested After Speedy Chase

Three armed robbery suspects were apprehended after a high speed chase that began in Aiken at about 3 a.m. and ended with a crash in Richmond County. Suspects William Underwood 18 Robert Herndon 18 and Jeffery Parker 20 were charged with assault with intent to kill. the robbery occurred at Northside Gulf on U.S. 1 and I-20 with about $210 taken plus a radio and two calculators valued around $300.

Graniteville Denies Suit Allegations Over Pension Funds

The Graniteville Company denies a U S Labor Department claim that about 27 million dollars in surplus pension assets from its retirement plans were not returned to employees but used to repay corporate debt. The company says it repaid 18.25 million and agreed to pay 36 million over 10 years without interest. The suit remains unsettled and trial is several months away.

Aiken Man Killed In Augusta Wreck

An Aiken man, Carl Eugene Russell, was killed when the vehicle he rode in flipped after a drag race on Gordon Highway in Augusta. The other driver, Carl Preston Glover, was seriously injured. Darren Joseph Stewart survived without injury.
