County Council To Discuss Budget For 1978-79

Aiken County Council will hold a 7 p.m. meeting at Richland Avenue offices to review a $43,688,559 budget for 1978-79. Included is $38,318,677 for the PSA with the rest for county and agency expenditures. A tax increase decision will come at the 6 p.m. work session.

North Augusta Band to Play Hopeland Gardens Tonight

The North Augusta Senior High Band directed by Richard Brasco performs at Hopeland Gardens at 7 p.m. on a program including The Barber of Seville overture Olympia Hippodrome March and Italian Polka. The group recently earned top honors at the 1978 Daytona Beach Music Festival. If rain cancels, the concert will be canceled.

Edgefield Publisher Receives $151500 Damages Award

Federal jury awarded W. W. Mims publisher of the Edgefield Advertiser $253833 total in a conspiracy case against Edgefield County residents. Defendants include Julian M. Pendarvis Jr Amelia S. Reese Lon J. Courtney Jr John Edwards Henry M. Herlong Olin O. Kemp and Pendarvis Chevrolet Olds Inc. The award covers damages and attorney fees for boycotting ads after Mims opposed a federally funded water and sewer plan. Reese refused to pay her share, which was distributed among the others.

Warren Is Found Guilty

An Al lendale attorney, Robert W. Warren, 33, is found guilty of trespassing on Allied General Nuclear Services property after a day-long trial. The magistrate imposes a 15 day jail term, while fines and courtroom dispute over procedure follow.
