Americans Growing Less Christian and More Secular Pew study shows rise of “nones”
A Pew Research Center report finds 56 million Americans identify with no religion, making the unaffiliated the second-largest group after evangelicals. Christians remain a majority but have fallen from 78% to about 71% from 2007 to 2014. Major declines hit mainline Protestants and Catholics, while Muslims and Hindus stay under 1% each. Jews rise slightly to 1.9%.
