Hospitality tax eyed in Aiken city limits
The City of Aiken proposes a 1 percent hospitality tax on gross proceeds from prepared meals and drinks, extending to grocery stores nursing homes gas stations and ABC licensed venues. Non residents would pay via event based one time option with remittance within five business days. Projections suggest 60 percent of revenue from out of town visitors totaling at least 1.2 million yearly. Money funds four programs including a public parking deck and enterprise capital reserves.
