Two Die in Suspicious Montmorenci House Fire
A Montmorenci house fire on Saturday killed a father and his two year old daughter and is being investigated as arson. The blaze on Old Tory Trail began about 10 08 a m. The father died at Doctors Hospital in Augusta about 3 p m the coroner said. The daughter died at the scene. An autopsy is planned in Newberry Sunday morning. Fire EMS and sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene.

Redcliffe Plantation Marks 40 Years as State Historic Site
Redcliffe Plantation in Beech Island celebrates four decades as a state historic site. The 369 acre property houses a Greek Revival mansion, a stable and two slave cabins, and traces Civil War Reconstruction and Civil Rights eras. Hammond, a SC governor and slavery advocate, built and owned the house between 1857 and 1859 after purchasing the land in 1855.
