Hydrogen tech drive aims to curb foreign oil reliance
Dr. Bill Summers and 80 to 100 SRS scientists advance hydrogen storage and fuel cell tech aiming to attract auto industry investment. Discussions push for a 27,000 square foot Savannah River Technology Center lab to collaborate with universities and private firms. Summers cites nickel hydride limits and new complex hydrides storing 6 to 7 percent hydrogen by weight. He envisions nuclear power as the best hydrogen source, while SRS partners pursue hydrogen vehicles, locomotives, and construction equipment amid a Bush energy push.
