Storms Leave Over 1 000 Without Power in Aiken County

Two Sunday storms cut electricity to more than a thousand residents across Aiken County. Aiken Electric Cooperative cited a lightning strike on a Camp Long New Holland transformer at about 5 p.m. that left 900 homes without power for around six hours. SCE&G reported outages in Crosland Park Dibble Road Belvedere and North Augusta with varying durations. Kathy Love of SCE&G warned of more storms after a tough year for tornadoes.

Second storm hits S.C.

A second deadly tornado swept through South Carolina near Charleston injuring at least seven people and damaging over 90 homes from Summerville to Daniel Island. One woman died at Trident Medical Center after her Eva Cornish home was lifted 40 feet and dropped. The storm, described as a super cell by NWS, toppled trees, caused power outages, and tossed shopping carts at a Summerville center.

Co-Op Elections Saturday At Aiken Electric Coop Meeting

Two of three trustee seats on the Aiken Electric Cooperative board are up for election at the annual meeting. Incumbent James B. Stewart Jr. faces Leroy Bates in District 3, and Robert W. Rogers faces Henry Moseley and Calvin Richardson in District 4, with JM Dorn Jr. unopposed in District 1. Registration runs 7 a.m. to 12 30 p.m. at 2790 Wagener Road, and results will be posted after counting at the Aiken County elections office. Voting is in person at the meeting for about 35,000 eligible members, though turnout is typically light.
