Political turmoil and election notices in Saluda and Colleton county

Delegates meet on Wednesday May 16 following county conventions held Monday. Several general assembly members announce re election bids or retirement. In Colleton, We We-Smoak and J W Durham seek re election. Edgemoor, Chester counties also list candidates. In Richland, a gambling bust ending in a fatality leads to no discipline for Officer Price. a coroner’s jury rules the shooting accidental.

Mrs Evelyn Lester Announces City Representative Candidacy

Mrs S Evelyn Lester an attorney from the Columbia bar announces candidacy for the house of representatives from Richland county. In the recent city primary Bessie Rogers Drake formerly of Marlboro was elected a member of the city school board the first woman to hold office in Columbia or Richland county by popular vote. In Marlboro Olin Pegues has announced re election bids to the house with Josiah J Evans listed among early contenders in Marlboro.
