The Thoroughbreds trailed in four of six matches but relied on late-set comebacks and clutch games from Jonny Bowman and others to seal the win and avenge a season series loss. Coach Rakesh Jasani praised the team’s resilience as key to overcoming the Wildcats and securing the title for a third straight year.
UNC Pembroke routed top seed USC Aiken 14 3 as colts of the Pacers faltered with five errors and four wild pitches. Braves pitcher Conner Pratt threw a complete game allowing three earned runs while Wyatt Brown took the loss.
Stratford High School boys soccer used extra defenders to slow South Aiken in a Class AAAA playoff at the Stomping Grounds. The Thoroughbreds struck twice in the first half and controlled play, but South Aiken adjusted and pulled away 5-1. Stratford coach Alister DeLong admitted the plan backfired while T-Breds coach Paul Waters noted eventual midfield dominance and patient shooting.
South Aiken defeats Stratford 5 1 in boys soccer while Silver Bluff and Blackville-Hilda post high wins. Tennis and baseball schedules include South Aiken at Lexington and Fox Creek at St Josephs with several softball and girls soccer matchups slated for Thursday.
