Cancer care costs rise as patient numbers grow
A study tracking U.S cancer costs shows almost a doubling from 1987 to 2005 driven mainly by more cancer patients rather than pricier drugs. In 2005 cancer costs exceeded 48 billion dollars, with Medicare covering about a third and private insurers taking over half of payments.
