Beech Island Historical Society plans a Friday ground breaking at 2 p.m. behind the Visitors Center at 144 Old Jackson Highway for renovating an 1880s barn into the Beech Island Agricultural Museum. The project follows a 2005 Rural Development grant of 200000 dollars and includes barn repairs, a new floor, wiring, insulation, a new roof, and the eventual removal of a shed. The renovation aims to house artifacts and provide a meeting space, with additional funding from the South Carolina Heritage Corridor and Aiken County Accommodations Tax. The event is free and open to the public.
