South Carolina cotton can thrive with May planting
SAM H. SHERARD from Ninety Six argues that despite recent wet spells and damage, cotton can be economically produced in South Carolina if planted in May. He cites 1928 field demonstrations near Woodruff, detailing fertilizer, row spacing of three feet, drill spacing of ten to twelve inches, weevil control, and rapid top dressing with ammonia and potash to boost vigor and insect resistance.
