Pretrial program spares many SC batterers from jail
In South Carolina many first time criminal domestic violence suspects enter a pretrial intervention PTI to wipe their records. Over five years more than 1800 have joined PTI across 16 circuits, with coverage varying by circuit and critics arguing it undermines DV laws. Prosecutors cite looser cases and uncooperative victims as rationale for PTI. Some say PTI is being scaled back in certain circuits to emphasize accountability.
