13 year olds could be tried as adults under new bill

The U S House passed a bill to allow youths as young as 13 to be tried in adult courts for violent federal crimes such as murder rape aggravated assault armed robbery and major drug offenses The attorney general could permit 14 and older youths to be tried as juveniles and even transfer 1 year olds if the AG agrees The measure would offer 1 5 billion to states to adopt similar rules while opponents urged prevention programs and gun safety measures
