Government Bureau of Justice Statistics reports gun homicides fell from 18,253 in 1993 to 1,101 in 2011, a 39 percent per year ratio not, and Pew Research Center notes similar declines in gun murder rates. Nonfatal gun crimes also drop about 70 percent, while public concern remains high amid mass shootings and background check debates.
