Clyde James Hendley II, 31, of Front Street Bath is jailed on second degree arson charges after investigators say he set his couch on fire to collect insurance money. The Bath home suffered extensive damage but investigators say evidence was preserved for arson inquiry.
Aiken residents gathered for the National Day of Prayer in an interdenominational service at St. John United Methodist Church. Mayor Fred Cavanaugh led the gathering with ministers and public officials speaking on themes including families government and schools.
About 1,000 Savannah River Site employees face reapplication as Savannah River Remediation takes over the 3.3 billion Liquid Waste contract. Nonexempt workers mainly white collar engineers and management may face review panels, while roughly 900 exempt blue collar workers will be offered their current roles. Hiring decisions to be announced by June 2 with internal process ongoing.
