Jobless Rate Edges Down in April Reports

The labor market improved as unemployment fell to 7.2 percent in April, with 126000 new jobs added. Household data show 327000 employed and 240000 entered the labor force, dropping total unemployment to 9.16 million. Whites 6.3 percent unemployed, blacks 13.9 percent, Hispanics 10.3 percent. Analysts expect gradual gains through year end.

National Day of Prayer Observed in Aiken Service

Aiken marked a National Day of Prayer with a rainy morning service at the Aurora Pavilion gymnasium after weather drove the gathering from the lake at Ai ken Regional Medical Centers. More than 20 worshippers joined local ministers including Rev. Ron Gray Monsignor Joseph Roth and Rev Reilly Hammond to pray for guidance recite the Lord s Prayer and hear a proclamation from President George Bush declaring the day.
