SRTC designated as national research laboratory by Energy Department
The Energy Department will designate its Savannah River Technology Center the 13th national research laboratory during a 1 30 p m announcement at SRTC. Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham and Gov Mark Sanford attend with Reps Grasham Barrett and Max Burns. Sen Lindsey Graham plans to attend remotely due to a scheduling conflict. The center, created in the 1950s for plutonium and tritium, has since broadened into environmental remediation hydrogen energy tech counterintelligence and robotics.
