City funds resource officers and D A R E program

The city budget maintains the two school resource officers and D A R E officers funded at 100 percent with court revenues providing 41 000 for the position. Aiken County education chair John Bradley urged the city to cover the full cost, arguing the city’s stronger finances. The program had been state grant and city school contributions. The city warned it may be the last year if funding does not continue. Growth caps on programs remain until new fields are completed. No tax rate or fee increases are planned. Current taxes comprise 32 4 percent of the general fund, with one mill raising about 76 044 annually.
