Aiken County court opens as board weighs film plan

General Sessions Court convenes at 10 a.m. with Judge Peeples. 63 cases include a sexual conduct matter and drug offenses. The Aiken County Board of Education may approve showing a child abuse education film titled Better Safe Than Sorry to K6 students. The board meets tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Education Center. Also on the agenda are PTO requests, school food service review, payroll, indemnity agreement with the county for Bath Special School, and personnel appointments. Voter registration deadlines and locations are listed for the June 12 primary. The Aiken High School Symphonic Band will perform at Hopeland Gardens tonight as part of the 1984 summer series.

Tornado sighted but no major damage in Aiken County storm

A tornado was sighted along the Aiken Lexington line near midnight but did not touch down. Officials said Aiken city and county experienced no significant damage, only water problems and rain, with forecasts predicting more storms and variable temperatures through the week. Utility crews reported limited impact, with about 30 customers affected in Midland Valley and no service interruptions at Southern Bell.

Aiken Center Plans $400,000 Campaign to Unite Three Units

The Tri-Development Center of Aiken County seeks $400,000 to buy and renovate the former Eustis Park School for a single facility housing the Child Development Center, Adult Development Center, and an Adult Basic Needs program. Ben Rusche Nominated to Lead Nuclear Waste Office
