Payne to lead Augusta National succeeding Hootie Johnson
Billy Payne, former Atlanta Olympics administrator, is named chairman of Augusta National Golf Club replacing Hootie Johnson who led since 1998. Johnson will become chairman emeritus on May 21 as Payne assumes control of the Masters and club traditions. Davis Love III praised Johnson's handling amid pressures while Martha Burk urged Payne to take stronger leadership on membership issues.
