First Class Postage Hike Set, Postal Board Says

The Postal Service moved toward raising the first class stamp to 25 cents with a final decision by the Postal Rate Commission. The 22 cent rate since February 17, 1985 would see an average 16 percent rise across mail classes. Chairman John N Griesemer noted some rates may be higher or lower and the annual impact for the typical American would be less than ten dollars. The board postponed final action to study the matter further.
