Wet weekend expected with showers and thunderstorms through Tuesday. A moisture plume from the Midwest and lower Mississippi Valley could bring rainfall to the Southeast. Precipitation chances range up to 80 percent Sunday with highs around 72. Monday sees 30 percent chances and partly sunny skies.

A Graniteville community program today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Family YMCA examines the by chlorine disaster on January 6. The event offers activities for children, refreshments and door prizes while sharing health and environmental updates. Ryan Bevington and Lucy Annang from USC join to present findings from a USC Amos School project on the disaster impact.
A free community health event called Healthy You Healthy Graniteville is set for Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm at The Family Y located at 621 Trolley Line Road in Graniteville.
At Ingate Pharmacy and the Aiken Public Safety Department the first National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day drew 109 pounds of unused or expired medications from residents. Officials say controlled substances require take-back events, while ordinary meds can be dropped off daily at participating pharmacies.
The Aiken Newcomers Club will meet May 4 at Newberry Hall at 10am. The May community service collects items for the Department of Social Services including powders Depends lotion dental cream hair spray and small combs. Reservations by noon Thursday via 803-641-1444 for A-L or 803-643-0969 for M-Z.
A public fireworks show at Western Carolina State airgrounds begins at 8 pm to celebrate a Jake's Fireworks and Folds of Honor partnership. A private dinner and shootoff occur during the day, with $10 donated per Folds of Honor Firework sold at 250 locations. Maj. Dan Rooney and Jake's Fireworks CEO Michael Marietta praise the effort.
Today at 8 pm a fireworks show will illuminate The Western Carolina State Fairgrounds at 1566 Columbia Highway W. Officials urge spectators to arrive early and follow safety guidelines.
