ACOLT promotes land preservation with a Champagne Branch talk by Savannah River Ecology Lab and an amphibian display. A gallery and photo exhibit run alongside a raffle and brunch with tickets 10 and 40 dollars. Proceeds support land conservation and watershed protection efforts in Aiken.
The City of Aiken Design Review Board approved Casa Bella sign designs for the new Italian restaurant at 120 Chesterfield St. Two signs will mark the site including a green sign over a brick archway and another to the left of the entrance. The Board of Zoning Appeals granted a variance to enlarge the sign size. Developers plan to open in about three weeks as renovations continue downtown.
The AARP chapter of Aiken will gather at 3 p.m. Monday May 14 in the Fellowship Hall of South Aiken Presbyterian Church with Dr. Patrick Morgan of Alternative Medicines as guest speaker. Dues are $5 per household and all are welcome. Also, the American Sewing Guild meets May 14 at 10 a.m. at Eden Gardens on Silver Bluff Rd, with Lynne presenting embellishing and a Sew n Tell share. Wal-Mart Stores Inc recalled Baby Connection bibs sold nationwide after tests showed high lead levels in the vinyl portion. The Hamco Inc produced bibs, boxed in two to seven per set with Sesame Street images, date back to 2004. About 60,000 units were sold in Illinois with no injuries reported.
