Belvedere Water District Abolished by Riley Signing

Gov. Richard Riley signed a bill abolishing the Belvedere Water and Sewer District after an April 13 referendum passed nearly three to one. Rep. Thomas Huff introduced the measure amid questions of constitutionality and a separate refunding bill redistributing a 93 mill tax to district voters.

Southeastern to bid for Graniteville stock via SEC filing

Victor Posner announced that Southeastern will file with the SEC to pursue a tender offer for 51 percent or more of Graniteville common stock at $15 a share. The move follows a lawsuit by Southeastern in U S District Court and Graniteville's board response. Stock traded higher, with values rising from $11.75 to $14 by noon.
