Second reading of redistricting bill approved
Senate Democrats delayed passage of a redistricting bill as the GOP favored plan awaited House action this year. After two days of delay the bill passed second reading on Wednesday with a final vote planned Friday. House leaders oppose rushing the bill to align with court maps amid calls to pass a sound budget and avoid partisan gerrymandering. The court drew its own maps after a veto and a court-ordered plan now shapes this year’s districts. Republican leaders push their own lines, arguing the court plan splits many precincts.
