About 15 department supervisors met with County Administrator Thomas F. Williams after he announced a 60 day resignation. They urged him to reconsider, saying the show of support may influence his decision amid a dispute over hiring and firing authority.
Annie Lonnie Goff Herron, 34, was found dead at her east Aiken home around 12 36 p m Sunday. Investigator Ed Yarbrough said she was killed by a shotgun blast through a locked back porch door. There were no signs of robbery or disturbance. The body likely lay 10 to 12 hours before discovery by her adopted son Jimmy Herron.
The Consolidated School District of Aiken County Spelling Bee finals, sponsored by the Aiken Standard, will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the newspapers office 124 Rutland Drive. Area winners are Neal Beals, Lisa Mintz, Michael Wood, Jan Ballentine as first place in their areas.
