Tanks 18 and 19, each holding about 1.3 million gallons of radioactive waste, will be grouted with cement as part of a major cleanup effort. The project costs around 50 million dollars and will involve up to six cement trucks hourly. The closure marks the first DOE tank closures nationwide since 2007 and the first at SRS in 15 years.
