U S and Spanish officials begun preparations to fly about 60 of 70 survivors of history's worst aviation disaster to the United States for treatment. The Army Burn Center in San Antonio said it would receive roughly 60 survivors from the collision of two Boeing 747s on the Santa Cruz airport runway, a crash that killed 575 people. Sixty seven survivors and 321 dead were Americans according to airline information.
President Carter seeks a 50 rebate for most Americans but the Senate signals a possible repeal of the rebate in favor of a permanent tax cut. Senate debate starts next week and may extend past Easter recess, with members' home travel influencing the final bill heading to the White House.

Aiken City Council approved a revenue sharing budget of 339 648 last night. The plan includes 107 000 for the Depreciation Fund and 75 000 for the Smith Hazel Multi Purpose Building. The third phase of Hopeland Gardens also carries 75 000, with state support half the cost. Windham noted funds from other sources will be explored to back the projects.
