Singer to star as Baker in TV movie on Turner network
Beverly Hills report says a 1920s singer Josephine Bakersta will be portrayed by Diana Ross in a Turner Television movie slated for next year. Ross and Ted Turner announced the plan on Tuesday, with Turner praising Ross’s potential to realize the project. HBO countered with a rival biopic starring Lynn Whitfield, filming in Budapest and set for year’s end. Baker, famed for Paris clubs in the 1920s, later moved to Europe, aided WWI efforts, adopted 12 children, and died in 1975 at 68.
