Aiken Kiwanis Club Honored for IDD Efforts

Six members of the Aiken Kiwanis Club attended an international meeting in Charlotte where the club received the George F. Hixson Fellowship and the Tablet of Honor for contributions to the Iodine Deficiency Disorders program. Presenting the awards were international president Eddie Sigurdsson. recipients included B T Barnes Dr Deidre Martin and Jamie Manasco. Former Aikenite Publishes Savannah History Book

Louise Yancy Streed, once of Aiken, writes Savannah Her History a watercolor filled guide to city sites tied to its past. The book features landmarks such as Juliette Gordon Low House Pirates House and Johnny Mercer House with notes on Owens Thomas and Eliza Jewett Houses and more. Streed will autograph copies at Aiken Office Supply and Bookstore on Saturday 1 to 3 p.m. on Whiskey Road beside Lowe's.
