Defense funds granted for McWee defense request

Attorney Jim Huff won a motion Thursday to allocate funds for McWee's defense including private investigator and psychiatric examination costs. Judge Rodne Peeples limited spending to about 2 500 dollars for the investigator and a similar amount for the psychiatrist, with cautions on disbursement.

Harness Race Ends Triple Crown with Aiken event

Saturday concludes another year of Triple Crown excitement with the Aiken Harness Race at the Aiken Mile Track. Sponsored by the city of Aiken Recreation Department and the USC Aiken Pacer Club, the 12 race series offers clear skies and mild temperatures for fans. Proceeds benefit the USC Aiken Athletic Club. Peter Szymowski will announce the event with post time at 1 p.m. Gates open at 10 a.m. Tickets cost 5 dollars for adults and 2 dollars for children over six.

Pine Log Turning Lanes To Ease Aiken Traffic

Aiken and the South Carolina Highway Department install temporary turning lanes on Pine Log Road at Powderhouse and Banks Mill roads. The $30,000 fix aims to relieve gridlock for about three years until a planned 2.5 mile five lane expansion, costing around $2.9 million, is completed.
