New York fort cannons traced to Florida wreck HMS Looe
Research by underwater archaeologist Joseph Zarzynski ties nine iron cannons on Fort William Henry’s replica ramparts to HMS Looe, a 1741 British warship sunk off Florida Keys in 1744. The study of 68 cannons confirms the Florida provenance long suspected since the fort opened in 1954 and follows a 20 minute documentary on the discovery.

Florida urged to improve child care inspections after federal findings
Federal inspectors found Florida not adequately enforcing rules at subsidized child care facilities, uncovering hazards such as exposed chemicals, peeling paint, leaks, blocked exits, and unlocked high voltage boxes. Across nine states and Puerto Rico only nine of 227 facilities showed no health or safety violations.
