Nine Georgia counties could join South Carolina in a disaster area designation if President Bush approves. The project by Fine Deering aims to create nearly 5,000 homes plus retail and recreation, including a future YMCA with pools and a water park, and will dwarf nearby Woodside Plantation in scale.
An independent consulting firm informed the Aiken County Board of Education that about 357 million dollars in long term facility needs exist for the district. Phase I would cost 150 million and fund new elementary schools in Aiken and North Augusta, overhaul North Augusta Middle School, renovate Leavelle McCampbell, and add 75 million in classroom space at other elementary schools. The board will consider payment methods as it moves from needs to plans.
