The 41st Aiken Spring Steeplechase drew about 35 000 spectators with Dr. Douglas F Antezak of Cornell's Baker Institute detailing the equine genome project. The team aims to map genes including immune system ones and help breeders assess risks for muscle and bone diseases. Twilight, a 3 year old mare, serves as the DNA donor for sequencing which will reveal over 20 000 genes and three billion genetic bits.
