Horse Creek student to compete in national spelling bee
Kolin Schuler, sixth grader at Horse Creek Academy, will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington DC starting May 27 after finishing second at the regional Carolina Panthers Spelling Bee in Bank of America Stadium on March 8. He won the local school bee, studied a long list with his mother, and used a definition and sentence approach for every word. Schuler described nerves, a stadium thrill, and daily practice as he prepares for the nationals.

Blue Creek Wins Imperial Cup In Aiken Steeplechase
Blue Creek, a 4-year-old gelding owned by Upland Flats Racing, edged Kiyomori by a half length to win the $40,000 Imperial Cup at the Aiken Spring Steeplechase on March 22. Jockey Stephen Mulqueen described the victory as easy despite a late challenge, with trainer Keri Brion noting Blue Creek was relaxed and strong. The win capped a bright start to the 2025 season for the horse, who previously ran well in Maryland and Virginia over jumps.

Masters traffic changes planned in Augusta before event
Augusta officials release tournament traffic plan ahead of Masters. Key items include a QR code, morning and afternoon route adjustments, temporary signals at Washington Road and River Ridge Drive, and a ride share lot. Exit 199 eastbound on I 20 will close at 7 and 10 a.m. Impacted streets include Washington Road, Riverwatch Parkway, Alexander Drive, Wheeler Road, Ingleside Drive, Boy Scout Road, Berckmans Road, 15th Street and Calhoun Parkway. Afternoon egress shifts may affect Berckmans Road and surrounding lanes with one left turn lane closed on Alexander Drive and Berckmans Road. Kroger access on Washington Road will be right-out only. Traffic signals installed March 17 will run until about April 18.
