Woman seeks acquittal in ex mayor of York death

Julia Phillips 71 of Gaffney asks South Carolina Court of Appeals to overturn her murder conviction in the 2010 killing of 79-year-old Melvin Roberts, a York mayoral target whose death involved head trauma and a zip tied neck. Prosecutors say she plotted Roberts death after he planned to end their relationship and cut financial support. Phillips is serving life for murder. Investigators have not found the actual killer.

Two Arrested in West Columbia Murder Case

Lexington County deputies charged 26-year-old Michael Gene Sulier II with murder and 24-year-old Mark Christopher Hodges with accessory after the fact to murder in the death of 22-year-old Adam Berry. Berry, missing for days, was found burned in a car on March 7 in Orangeburg County after authorities say Sulier shot him on March 4 and Hodges aided his escape.
