The National Steeplechase Association begins its season in Aiken with the 46th renewal of the Aiken Steeplechase featuring 40 horses vying for a combined purse of $110,000.
The 46th Aiken Spring Steeplechase kicks off at Ford Con ger Field with gates at 9 30 a m and the first race at 1 p m The event features a Budweiser Imperial Cup purse of 50 000 and draws about 30000 spectators It runs rain or shine with no refunds for weather and benefits the Aiken Rescue Squad and Helping Hands Inc.
