Copper thefts hit area churches in two-week span
In under two weeks about six area churches were stripped of copper from air conditioning units. Deputies say the losses exceed replacement costs and advise churches to improve lighting and security. Aiken County deputies arrested a man last week after finding him at a substation with stolen copper and aluminum wire. Authorities urge reports to the sheriff at 800 922 9709 and CrimeStoppers at 888 CRIME-SC for cash rewards.
