Shuttle Atlantis linked with Russia's Mir station 245 miles above Earth docking Saturday night. NASA astronaut Shannon Lucid prepared to begin a five month stay aboard Mir while commander Kevin Chilton reported contact and capture.
Michelle Kwan capped a near perfect season by winning the world championship and delivering the United States a sweep of the singles titles. She edged Chen Lu of China with a triple toe loop in the free skate after winning the short program. Todd Eldredge had captured the men’s title on Thursday, marking the first U S sweep since 1986.

Republican candidates Hank Rowland Chris Beam and Greg Carmack face Democrat Jim Williams for council. Republican Tink Sanders seeks the water post.
