Calorie Restriction Extends Lifespan in Aged Mice
A study led by Stephen R. Spindler reports that strict low calorie diets increased life span by about 42 percent in 19 month old mice and slowed aging. Older mice on restricted calories lived longer than peers on standard diets, though not as long as those fed restriction since birth. The findings appear in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and caution that human applicability remains unproven.
