Taking aim at teamwork in Aiken Junior Leadership program
The third year of Junior Leadership Aiken engages eighth and ninth graders from Kennedy Middle School, St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic School, Aiken High, Aiken Prep and others in citywide learning. Students tour Dogwood Stables and the Municipal Building, meet public service speakers, and participate in a mock city council with Melinda Rhymer named mayor. They visit Aiken Technical College and the University of South Carolina, with plans for a community service project and a Heart Walk to raise funds for the American Heart Association. Leaders from Helping Hands join efforts, and the program mirrors Leadership Aiken County to foster belonging and civic responsibility among youth.
