The Fifth Renewal of the Aiken Hunt Meet capped a sunny weekend as Gaddo owned by Augustin Stables won the $4,000 purse and Imperial Cup. Ten steeple chasers cleared 13 hurdles over a mile seven furlongs before about 4,000 spectators. Samarkand, ridden by Bird as trainer, won the Greentree Plate after Bird’s five-year effort, while Dakota Fox’s spill led to Too Many Chiefs taking the Aiken Cup. Miss Mary Lee Bolick escaped with a bruised hip.
