Chesterfield Sheriff Sam Parker Indicted on Misconduct Counts
The State Grand Jury in Columbia indicted Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker on four counts of misconduct in office and two counts of furnishing contraband to inmates. Each misdemeanor carries up to 10 years. Parker allegedly used state inmates to work on his home and allowed them to live outside jail, shop, and eat out in exchange. He has served since 2003 and reportedly remains sheriff as of Tuesday evening.

South Carolina House Backs Raffle Legalization Measures
A House Judiciary committee in Columbia approved two measures to legalize raffles for nonprofits with limits. One proposes a 2014 ballot question to amend the constitution. the other sets rules for running and regulating raffles. If approved by voters in 2014, raffles could be legal in 2015. The Senate already gave final approval last month.
